Certified School Nurse (PEL-CSN)
To develop, implement, and oversee a comprehensive school-based health program, and deliver services to students to enhance students' health, wellness, and educational performance. All duties are to be performed in accordance with professional standards of school nursing practice, applicable State law and regulations, and Board of Education policies and administrative procedures.
Required Qualifications:
- Education/Training: Baccalaureate Degree or higher
- Licensure: Valid Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) Valid Illinois Hearing and Vision Screening Certification Valid Healthcare Provider CPR/AED certification
- Endorsement: PEL-CSN (Professional Educator License-Certified School Nurse)
- Experience: Minimum of two (2) years of prior professional nursing experience, preferably pediatric, adolescent, community or mental health nursing, and health program management.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Coordination: Participates in the development, implementation, and overseeing a comprehensive school-based health program.
- Teaching: Provides and/or presents staff in-service programs on health-related topics.
- Clinical Practice: Provides, delegates and/or administers direct professional nursing services, first aid, illness, and emergency care to students.
- Health Office Management: Maintains a user friendly and organized health services facility.
- Communication: Acts as a liaison between home and school by communicating with parents regarding students' health and safety needs.
- Special Education: Conducts medical review component of student case study evaluations.
- Professional Development: Participates as a member of professional school nursing and education organizations.
Physical Requirements: As established by the current Agreement between Board of Education, Proviso Township High Schools District No. 209, Cook County, Illinois and the Proviso Teachers Union, Local 571, AFL-CIO.
