Job Title: IT Collaboration Engineer (Slack Administrator)

Location: 100% Remote (Preferred Time Zones: CST, PST, MST)
Schedule: Monday–Friday, 40 hours per week
Duration: Approximately 12 months
Pay Rate: $45.00–$47.00 per hour

Position Overview:

We are seeking an experienced Slack Platform Administrator to support a large-scale enterprise collaboration environment serving more than 15,000 employees worldwide.

This role will serve as the primary administrator and operational owner of the organization's Slack platform, ensuring a secure, reliable, and highly optimized collaboration experience.

The ideal candidate has hands-on experience administering enterprise Slack environments, managing governance and security, building workflow automations, and integrating Slack with enterprise business applications.

This position partners closely with IT, Information Security, HR, Legal, and business stakeholders to drive platform excellence, user adoption, and continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the primary administrator and operational owner for the enterprise Slack environment.
  • Manage user provisioning, deprovisioning, and license assignments in partnership with Identity and Access Management teams.
  • Configure and maintain workspace settings, retention policies, compliance controls, and data loss prevention (DLP) policies.
  • Administer Slack Connect by reviewing and approving external collaboration requests in accordance with company policies.
  • Manage channel governance, including naming standards, lifecycle management, archival, and workspace organization.
  • Review, approve, restrict, and maintain third-party Slack applications and integrations.

Automation & Integrations:

  • Design and maintain Workflow Builder automations to streamline operational processes such as onboarding, approvals, ticket routing, and notifications.
  • Support enterprise integrations including ServiceNow, Jira, Zoom, and other collaboration and productivity platforms.
  • Collaborate with development teams to support custom Slack applications utilizing Slack APIs, webhooks, event subscriptions, and slash commands.
  • Partner with Microsoft 365 administrators to support Slack and Microsoft Teams interoperability strategies.

Security, Compliance & Governance:

  • Implement and maintain enterprise security controls, including SSO/SAML, SCIM provisioning, guest access management, and session policies.
  • Support eDiscovery requests, audit log reviews, retention management, and compliance initiatives in partnership with Legal, HR, and Security teams.
  • Monitor platform security events and coordinate incident response with Security Operations.
  • Maintain governance documentation, standards, and operational procedures.

User Support & Platform Adoption:

  • Provide Tier 2/Tier 3 support for Slack-related incidents and service requests.
  • Develop user guides, documentation, training materials, and best practices to improve platform adoption.
  • Support enterprise communication initiatives including announcements and company-wide collaboration channels.
  • Monitor platform health, usage analytics, adoption metrics, and workspace activity while providing insights for continuous improvement.

Operational Excellence:

  • Participate in platform upgrades, feature releases, configuration changes, and change management activities.
  • Maintain current administrative documentation, architecture diagrams, and operational runbooks.
  • Collaborate with Slack support and customer success teams to stay current on new capabilities and best practices.
  • Assist with license management, optimization efforts, and reporting.

Required Qualifications:

  • 2–4 years of hands-on Slack administration experience in an enterprise environment (1,000+ users preferred).
  • Experience serving as a Slack Workspace Owner or Primary Administrator with enterprise-level administrative responsibilities.
  • Strong knowledge of Slack Enterprise Grid or Business+ features, including Slack Connect and large-scale workspace management.
  • Experience building workflows using Slack Workflow Builder.
  • Familiarity with Slack APIs, webhooks, OAuth applications, bots, and automation.
  • Working knowledge of SSO/SAML, SCIM provisioning, and identity lifecycle management.
  • Experience supporting enterprise compliance initiatives including retention policies, audit logs, eDiscovery, and DLP.
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to create clear technical documentation.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience integrating Slack with ServiceNow, Jira, and other enterprise ITSM platforms.
  • Scripting or automation experience using Python or JavaScript.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Teams and hybrid collaboration environments.
  • Experience with Slack AI or AI-powered administration tools.
  • Knowledge of ITIL or IT Service Management (ITSM) best practices.
  • Experience supporting global organizations across multiple time zones.
