About UPS & Our Culture

Safety is the first word in everything UPS does — and nowhere is that more true than in our Hazmat operations. UPS ships millions of federally regulated packages annually, including lithium batteries, flammable aerosols, and corrosive household products, each requiring specialized handling expertise to move legally and safely through our network. Our Hazmat Warehouse Specialists are certified professionals who form the compliance backbone of our package center. If you are searching for advanced UPS warehouse jobs that pair premium pay with DOT certification training, these specialized logistics careers are where expertise meets compensation.

What Our Team Says (Employee Reviews)

"The Hazmat team is an elite group inside the building. UPS paid for all my DOT General Awareness and Function-Specific training certifications — credentials that are valuable anywhere in the logistics industry. The pay premium over standard handler roles is significant, and knowing that your work keeps drivers, customers, and the public safe makes every shift feel genuinely important. Best UPS warehouse job in the building, no question." - Current Hazmat Specialist, Denver, CO.

Role Overview & Responsibilities

As a UPS Hazmat Warehouse Specialist, you identify, audit, and process federally regulated hazardous materials packages inside our package center, ensuring full DOT and IATA compliance before any regulated item enters the outbound transportation stream.

  • Regulated Package Identification: Audit inbound packages for hazardous material indicators — UN numbers, hazard class labels, and limited-quantity markings — using UPS's proprietary hazmat scanning and database verification system.
  • Compliant Segregation & Storage: Place identified regulated items in designated hazmat holding areas with correct DOT placarding, ensuring incompatible hazard classes are stored separately per 49 CFR regulations at all times.
  • Shipper Documentation Audit: Verify that all hazardous material shipments entering the outbound stream carry accurate Shipper's Declarations, proper UN specification packaging certifications, and correct emergency contact information before trailer loading.

Benefits & Perks

UPS Hazmat Warehouse Specialists earn a meaningful pay premium above standard Teamsters handler rates. All DOT General Awareness, Function-Specific, and Safety Training certifications are fully funded by UPS on-site. Full Teamsters medical, dental, vision, pension, and UPS Earn & Learn tuition benefits are included from day one of eligibility.
