The Robert J. Dole VA Medical Center is seeking a Physician for a temporary detail to the Deputy Chief of Staff position. This role is open exclusively to current Veterans Health Administration employees who are physicians in a surgical specialty. The incumbent will balance administrative duties with clinical practice, contributing to process improvement and resource management within the medical center.

Practice Info

  • This detail is only open to current employees of the Veterans Health Administration.
  • Allocation will be 40% administrative and 60% clinical in the discipline of the incumbent's board certification.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the lead physician during absence of the Chief of Staff.
  • Work with clinical service chiefs and performance measure champions to improve processes to meet performance measure goals and improve utilization management.
  • Review requests for contracts and help determine the best way to obtain required resources.
  • Coordinate transfers into and out of the Robert J. Dole VAMC with service chiefs, residents, transfer coordinators, and other facilities as needed.
  • Supervise a variety of staff aligned under the Chief of Staff Office.
  • Serve on a broad spectrum of medical center committees and task forces.

Shift & Schedule

  • Monday - Friday 8:00 am - 4:30 pm

Requirements

  • Must be a physician in a surgical specialty.
  • U.S. Citizenship; non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
  • Must be proficient in written and spoken English.
  • Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree from a VA-approved school.
  • Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
  • Residency training approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification.
  • Ability to perform clinical duties in surgical specialty.
  • Preferred Experience: Board Certified in Surgical Specialty.
  • Preferred Experience: VA management experience to include physicians.
